March 18 – National Clothing Day.

Within the framework of the Nauryznama decade, March 18 – National Clothing Day is one of the important celebrations aimed at promoting national values in our country. On this occasion, Konaev University also supported the initiative: led by the university president Ömiräli Shakarapuly, students and faculty members wore traditional clothing, showcasing the beauty of Kazakh culture. This event was not just a one-day action, but a clear demonstration that national clothing can have a meaningful place in modern life.

The Head of State, Қасым-Жомарт Тоқаев, emphasized the importance of national clothing: “National clothing is an integral part of our cultural code. It can be worn not only on holidays but also in everyday life.” This statement helps to reshape perceptions of traditional attire and encourages its integration into contemporary style.

National clothing reflects the history, worldview, aesthetic taste, and lifestyle of the people. Kazakh garments such as the kamzol, shapan, saukele, and skullcap are not merely decorative items but cultural heritage with deep meaning. Each ornament and color combination carries specific symbolism. For example, the “koshkar muiz” pattern symbolizes wealth and prosperity, while the delicate patterns in women’s clothing represent beauty and elegance.

Today, national clothing is evolving by blending with modern fashion and gaining new forms of expression. Designers incorporate traditional elements into everyday wear, actively promoting them among young people. This trend allows for the preservation of national identity while simultaneously renewing it.

The event at Konaev University is one of the concrete steps in this direction. It not only increases young people’s interest in national culture but also proves that national clothing can be worn in everyday life. Such initiatives make a significant contribution to preserving national values and passing them on to future generations.
