Academic mobility of students
Academic mobility is the movement of students, master’s students, PhD doctoral students, and/or teaching and research staff of Kunaev University to another higher education institution in Kazakhstan or abroad for a specific academic period (one semester or one academic year) for study (or research). The outcome of such mobility is an official document confirming the learning outcomes (a transcript or a certificate of study).
Students in their 2nd–3rd years, 1st-year master’s students, and doctoral students may be nominated for participation in academic mobility programs.
Selection criteria for students applying for study abroad within the framework of external academic mobility:
- High academic performance;
- Proficiency in a foreign language (English or the language of the host country) above the intermediate level;
- Active participation in the scientific and social life of the University.
Funding of academic mobility may be provided from the following sources:
- University funds
- Republican (state) budget funds
- Funds of the host institution, including grants from international organizations and private foundations;
- Personal funds of academic mobility participants.
Academic mobility of teachers and employees
One of the key areas of international and educational activities of Kunaev University is the academic mobility of teaching staff, employees, and administrative personnel. Exchange programs are implemented within the framework of interuniversity agreements/memorandum on cooperation and academic mobility.
The objectives of academic mobility include:
- improving the quality of higher education;
- increasing the effectiveness of scientific research;
- enhancing the competitiveness of faculty members in the national and international educational services and labor markets;
- developing professional competencies through studying and adopting the experience of leading national and foreign universities
- attracting foreign intellectual potential on the basis of bilateral agreements with partner universities abroad;
- establishing external and internal integration links.
Forms of academic mobility for teaching staff, employees, and administrative personnel include:
- conducting seminars, master classes, and delivering lectures (online/offline);
- participation in joint scientific and educational projects;
- participation in the educational activities of the host institution (online/offline);
- internships, training, and professional development at educational institutions of the host party;
- providing consulting and expert services in the field of education;
- participation in conferences and seminars.
List of required documents for participation in the academic mobility program:
- an official invitation letter from the host university addressed to the Rector;
- a nomination letter from the head of the structural unit;
- an application from the faculty member or employee.
