On February 25, a meeting with representatives of the legal community was held at Kunaev University to discuss the draft of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The honorary guests of the meeting were:
🔹 Member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Zhanna Asanova
🔹 Chairman of the Almaty City Branch of the Amanat Party - Stanislav Kankurov
🔹 Member of the Working Group on Parliamentary Reform - Alua Ibrayeva
🔹 Director of the law firm “Zan zhane Kukyk” - Galymzhan Sarzhanov

During the meeting, students were provided with explanatory information about the significance and key features of the draft Constitution, as well as the opportunities it creates for the country’s further development. The speakers emphasized that the draft Basic Law represents a large-scale modernization of the constitutional model of the state and is aimed at forming a more just and sustainable legal system.

The document focuses on a human-centered approach, expanding and strengthening guarantees of citizens’ rights and freedoms, including in the digital environment. Among the key innovations are strengthening the role of the Constitutional Court as an effective mechanism for protecting human rights and establishing a seven-year presidential term.

The main aspects of the draft Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2026) include:

proclaiming human rights as the highest priority of state policy;

enshrining the principles of justice, law and order, as well as prioritizing education, science, and innovation;

reaffirming the unitary nature of the state with a presidential form of government;

constitutionally securing the immutability of sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity;

continuing political modernization and developing institutions of constitutional control.

The event was held in an open format: students had the opportunity to ask questions and actively participate in the discussion. For future lawyers, such meetings are of particular importance, as their professional activities are directly connected with the application and development of legislation. Understanding the constitutional foundations of the state forms the basis of their future legal practice and civic responsibility.

The student youth demonstrated a high level of engagement and active civic stance, supporting the constitutional reform as the foundation for building a just, law-based, and progressive Kazakhstan.
